Mount Meru

Overview

Mount Meru is in the heart of Arusha National Park just 50 miles west of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a massive volcano reaching 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). This trek serves as an ideal warm-up for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude acclimatization and hiking distances. This trek is also geared toward hikers that prefer fewer crowds and a challenging ascent.

Climate

Meru has a hot, arid climate. Temperatures are fairly uniform through the year. Daytime temperatures are around 32°C/90°F, and at night temperatures fall to about 17°C/63°F.

Mount Meru’s slopes are home to an impressive range of wildlife.

You will cross through different climate zones on your safari, such as grasslands, tropical rainforest, moorlands, desert, ice and snow at the top.
